This is probably all the recording I will be able to do today. I wasn't as consistant on the pitch as I wasn't sure where "not too high, not too low" exactly fell so yeah, just let me know which is closest and I'll rerecord the other ones.

>> No.31

Good. Perhaps some fixes to the audio quality, but that can be addressed at a later time.

Only suggestion is so maybe lighten up a little bit; some points you sound just a bit to cold and gruff

>> No.33

This is good. If anything, sound a tiny bit more casual.

If I had to pick you for a role based on current submissions, it would be this one.

>> No.38

You hit it on the head. well done.

Just make sure to record so that they all sound like Clip number 1. That one had the best recording by far.

>> No.46

Ironically enough, Clip 1 was the only one that recorded in mono and not stereo. Hrmm. I think I just have a wonky headset honestly as I can't control when it switches ^_^

I tried to be a bit more laid back and cocky, and this should be better audio quality as well.

>> No.83

When the Teammates scream for the medic, instead of "Medic!" it should be "Eirin Eirin!" and "Help me, Eeeerin!"

But what would Eirin scream?

>> No.84

>>83

We've already taken this into consideration.

Eirin would also call for "Eirin", as in usual gameplay, there'd often be more than one Medic per team, so that'd be an inescapable issue.

And now for something completely different!

...can you tell I'm stuck home on a rainy Friday night with the apartment to myself? ^_^

I'm still having difficulty as my mic can't make up its mind if it wants to record in mono or stereo (sometimes in the middle of a take!) This batch is all in mono, so they should be consistent in audio quality.

Almost all the lines have at least 1 part where they hit critical peak levels. To save some time though, try doing whatever you plan on doing to 01b, 03c, and 05c

>> No.59

Echoing Utsuho, pitch needs to come down.

Amazing otherwise. The array of lines were nice, and I think any of them could have worked.

However, I liked the ones where you were simply happy-sounding better than the ones where you sounded drunk. But that's just my personal preference. Others may think differently.

>> No.61
File: suika_pitchdown.rar -(226040 B, 0x0) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.

Ok, I tried reducing pitch by 4-6% (the modified percentage is the number at the end of the line) I think what I'd have to do is lower my mic sensitivity if I was to voice her for real.

Let me know if I should rerecord, I'd wait until my actual mic in and see if that helps.

>> No.67

>>61

The sound quality is much better. I would like to hear a rerecord for good measure, though.

Also, this could be just me, but I'd like to add a note of direction. In 05c (as well as in general), I would like to hear an alternative of sorts in that you don't really go out of your way to enunciate your words. For example, I heard "...can'T hold your drinK?" For lack of a better word, I'd like to hear those syllables said a bit more "subtle".

>> No.69
File: suikahasnewmic.zip -(401888 B, 0x0) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.

>>67

So a new microphone where I don't have to crank the sensitivity to 11 to overcome the static? Helps a hell of a lot!

I just did one take for each line just so you can see how I can pump out lines now. If you all need anything else let me know! I'm going to go and redo my Eirin auditions with this shiny new setup next.

>> No.71

You are definitely there for the most part. You have her mannerisms and overall attitude down pat (or at least as far as the voice acting is concerned), so kudos.

I may be nitpicking at this point, but I'd like to point out two things that need slight improvement.

  1. I'd like to hear 02 with a "take-it-back" attitude (see attached file).
  2. The segue between the laugh and "What's that?!" was a tad unnatural.

Again, I may be splitting hairs and the community at large may think what you've provided is damn perfect, and I wouldn't be against that one bit. Like I said, you've definitely got the feel of Suika. A little spit and polish never hurts, though.

Is this more like it for the second line?

As for line 5, the laughs weren't in the audition line, they just helped me get into character better. So those can always be taken out for the real thing (I figure if I pass the audition, I'd be rerecording everything anyway...?)

>> No.80

>>78

I'm pretty much sold on this. I've said it before, but as far as my personal taste is concerned, you have Suika's "state of mind" down pat. If it were up to me, I'd give you the part. Alas, this is a group work, and still needs to be run through the higher-ups before anything's finalized.

You have my vote.

Why I do believe it's Sakuya o'clock.
Clearly I am spamming the board but whatever, I am having way too much fun I may go back and redo Reimu tonight or try for someone new :P

I told my fiance about this project (he is a huge fan of both Touhou and TF2) and is fully behind me making silly voices on the computer to be a part of it!

>> No.35

All of these only came from the left side. :( Just something to watch for future recordings. :)

>> No.37

Very nice, except for the only in the left speaker thing.

Also, Clip 2 kind of trailed off at the end. Be sure to avoid that.

Overall AWESOME! Incredibly well done.

>> No.52

The sound issue can be remedied by saving the file as a mono wav file instead of stereo. (I don't think there's any reason to use stereo unless you're recording using two mics...)

>> No.70

I'd imagine Sakuya with more of a British accent, but that's just me. Nice job.

>> No.74
>I'd imagine Sakuya with more of a British accent

I agree. Same goes for Patchouli (and anyone else from the Scarlet Devil Mansion).

>> No.75

>>70
>>74

Just a minor nitpick, but while it is understood what you mean, "British" can refer to people from all over Great Britain, including those who live in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and so on. While the term is still not perfect, an "English" accent might be more appropriate in terms of specificity.

>> No.76

>>75
Gotcha.

>> No.77

Alas, I am absolutely terrible at accents. I'll practice, but I can't promise I'd nail it enough to post up.

At least the one-channel-only thing is an easy fix! I saved it as stereo because that's what the instructions said with the audition lines, but again, easy to fix and just do mono the whole way through!

Uh.. I have a couple of auditions. I'm not altogther too sure what -exactly- you were after so I just sort of interpreted what I imagined basing on what you'd said, so.. ^^
Anyway here's Raymoo~

>> No.60

Nicely done. This is a happy medium between the two other Reimus. Recordings were done well, and voice volume and pitch were great. Annunciation was good as well.

However, you could sound a little angrier at times in the lines. #'s 3 and 5 are good examples.

"The shrine maiden's not supposed to lose!" You are supposed to be indignat, and somewhat mad that your teammates let you down.

"These donations are mine DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?" The last part of the sentence should be said very angrily. Watch the Meet the Soldier video on youtube to get a feel for how he operates.

Fixing that issue will make this a great Reimu.

Trying out for Aya.

>> No.27

THAT IS ENTIRELY THE WRONG FILE

>> No.29

okay that's the right file it's just named wrong

>> No.42

First off, recordings are a bit staticy, I'm not sure what you can do about that, if anything, but please try your best.

Other than that, You spoke very quickly, which is exactly what I imagined. However, while speaking quickly, make sure to avoid making Aya sound like an airhead. Try pronouncing the words more clearly. That might help.

Higher pitch would be nice too.

Overall very good, but it needs a little work.

>> No.51
>while speaking quickly, make sure to avoid making Aya sound like an airhead

That doesn't seem out of character. However, proper annunciation is something that is very important. There are some places where it seems like you're a little bit less confident and your volume lowers for those parts, so try to keep your volume uniform while recording.

Pauses were a little too long for my liking, and recording was a bit staticy.

But I think you got the intonation of the voice and the coldness, and anger perfect. Spot on!

No.10   [Reply]

Here are Reimu auditions. I'm not sure exactly what sort of intonations you were looking for in the lines so I just guessed!

I will record for a few more characters soon :)

>> No.11

One thing I noticed is that some of the clips seem to get cut off. For example, you don't get to finish saying "graze" so it sounds like "gray." If you need to, you can record for an extra second after you're done talking to ensure that everything you're saying is recorded. (Any extra silence left at the end can be trimmed out later.)

>> No.12

In regards to the audition, it's not bad. Next time you try something though, it would be best if you first ask about how to present each line before you do. Feel free to ask anything before you start making wild guesses.

In regards to that, some of your emotions in the context of the lines were off. If you plan on doing a retry just ask and I'll explain a few things.

For future recordings, might I suggest either trying Eirin/Sakuya (since they're virtually the same) or Mokou? I think you'd be able to do a good job with them

>> No.13

Alright - can you give the intonations for Eirin/Sakuya/Mokou/Reimu lines? This is my first time doing any sort of voice thing so I'm open to any suggestions! I'll redo Reimu the right way as well, and just leave the silence for you guys to handle :)

Heck, it'd probably be easiest to just put the intonations for each line along with the audition info on the main VAA post (I didn't see it, nor anything about where to go for clarifications)

>> No.14

OP has been updated. Hopefully it'll help out

>> No.15

Yup it does!

I will record everything in the morning, hopefully I'll fare a bit better, I've love to be a part of this!

>> No.43

You went to the opposite extreme that Mysty did, you were a little too quiet in some recordings, especially number 5.

Pitch was very good.

Make sure to leave some silence at the end again.

Well done. Those are my critiques.

The sound quality might change from file to file - I was trying a few different mics and settings as it appears my sound card isn't the greatest. If you can let me know which one is the best quality sound file I'll know what to try and replicate for the next batch.

>> No.17

Clip #4 has the best sound quality. Do whatever you did during that one.

Much better emotional presentation then before; you defiantly have the skill. It's just for me, I don't think you were gruff, or cold enough. I got vibes and subtly noticed that you sounded almost pleased, where as you're supposed to be a complete jerk.

You've got the talent though. Looking forward to hear what else you try

>> No.18

I agree with Utsuho, Clip 4 had the best recording settings.

Try reading the lines at a little lower pitch if you could, this may help you to sound more disinterested and generally mean.

Also, I imagined the lines coming out slightly differently. Emphasis on different parts of the sentence, pauses in different spots, etc...

For instance: Clip 3, the emphasis was on YOU and CAN'T. I would have put accents at KILL and DIE, with a pause between the two parts of the sentence:

YOU can't kill what CAN'T die becomes
you can't KILL <pause> what can't DIE

Or in clip 2, you put emphasis on I, and then the rest of the sentence trailed off from there. I would have put accents at PROBLEM and FIRE, with a pause in between.

Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>> No.20

I know it's a bit of a stretch, but I believe the quality of this character in particular would greatly increase if you could sound like a woman in her late 30s to early 40s.

Needs to sound a little more jaded, I guess. Mokou has a pretty rough past, and I can't imagine her sounding otherwise.

>> No.21
File: mokou2_cirno.zip -(254922 B, 0x0) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.

So I think for clip 4 I was using my WoW headset and was recording in pseudo-stereo... I will be able to get my hands on a USB microphone sometime next week, which should fix the audio quality issues as I'm constantly fighting the war with mic static :P

I took the suggestions into account for intonations; but I don't think I can go much lower pitch wise than heard in this batch but it's worth a shot if it's still not low enough.

>> No.30

Better...but it still isn't cold/distant/gruff enough. This is probably due to what we're looking for being out of your vocal range. I suggest trying to work on that

>> No.40

Much improved! I enjoyed it much better.

I don't agree with Utsuho, this sounded Gruff, cold, and distant enough for me.

The recording was not always the same though, maybe you were farther away from the microphone during different clips, I don't know for sure. But I liked this a lot.

>> No.41

Honestly, I think Mokou is just out of my vocal range (my normal speaking voice is a little higher than my Eirin lines) Ah well. Was definitely worth a shot to get some experience to this whole voice recording thing, as I'm still fairly new to it.
